Gold: A Nova Scotia Treasure

Date:
Saturday, 19 January 2013 to Sunday, 31 March 2013

Curators: Shannon Parker and Debra McNabb

Gold wiggled its way into Nova Scotia about 500 million years ago and has continued to shape the landscape and lives of Nova Scotians ever since.

Did you know that starting in the 1860s, Nova Scotia had three gold rushes?

This blinged-out exhibit mines the wealth of information about gold in Nova Scotia - from the geological formation of gold to its historical and cultural impacts on this province. Find out how gold came to be here and how it influenced our artistic traditions and our popular culture.

In a rewarding partnership, the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia and the Museum of Industry uncover the buried story of Gold: A Nova Scotia Treasure at the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia from January 19 – March 31, 2013.

With contributions from the Nova Scotia Museum geology and history collections, the Nova Scotia Archives, the Dept. of Natural Resources, the collections of the Museum of Industry and the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia, as well as loans from private collectors, this travelling exhibit explores what gold means to us.
