Jordan Bennett Response Exhibition - Call for Artists

Special Events Workshop

Join a group exhibition in response to Ketu’elmita’jik, an exhibition by Mi’kmaw artist Jordan Bennett. Expressing Mi’kmaw visual culture through wearable design, 10 artists will be selected to create two final pieces to showcase in a response exhibition at the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia. Participants must be between the ages of 18-30 and identify as Indigenous.


Mi’kmaw visual culture will be used to inspire expressions of identity; the young artists’ idea of contemporary Mi’kmaw wearable design, including: wallets, shoes, jackets, hats, dresses, backpacks, etc.

Young artists of other Indigenous identities within North America are welcome (including and not limited to, Inuit and Maliseet). In this case, alternate support materials will be provided in consultation from an artist of the individual’s Nation.


Meetings will take place between 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. at the following locations:

Supplies and studio

All supplies are provided, along with access to studio spaces.The studio is accessible on Thursday evenings for those who want to come in and do some work. Aiden Gillis will also be available in the space.


Honorariums are presented at the end of the project with a minimum of 4 sessions attended.

Artist’s Ownership

Artworks may be claimed once the exhibition is done travelling, which may take up to approximately one year. The Art Gallery of Nova Scotia does not own works produced from this exhibition, however, it is necessary to grant rights to exhibit work for the duration of the travelling show.
