Date Time:

Talks & Tours

Curator Judith Dietz will provide a brief history of the Abbey of Salzinnes in Namur, modern-day Belgium, and an over-view of the composition of the Salzinnes Antiphonal manuscript. She will also focus on the stylistic and regional influences, as well as the iconography and symbolism found in the devotional images which have maintained their original vibrancy and colour despite having been painted over 460 years ago.

The exhibition Centuries of Silence: The Discovery of the Salzinnes Antiphonal offers a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to see a unique 16th-century artefact that transitioned from use in a European setting to its journey across the Atlantic to Halifax, Nova Scotia in the 19th century, where it continued to serve the faithful in a new context.
