In 1995, Jean-Pierre Gauthier obtained a master's degree in visual art from the Universite du Quebec a Montreal, his work has been presented in solo exhibitions at the Knoxville Museum of art, in Tennessy, at Jack Shainman Gallery in New York, NY, 2003, at Musée des beaux-arts de Montréal, PQ, 2002, he has participated in a number of group exhibitions: Artifice in Montreal, PQ, 1998; Of Fire and Passion, 1997 and Head over Heels - A Work of impertinence, 1999 at the Musee d'art contemporain de Montreal; the Montreal Biennale, 2000; Le ludique at the Musee du Quebec, 2001; Mercancias at Espacio C in Camargo, Spain 2001, House boat in Hull 2002.
Gauthier has also had one-person at the Montreal artists' centres Skol (1995) (1997) and B-312 (2000); the Kitchener-Waterloo Art Gallery, ON (2001); Angelica Festival in Bologna , Italy (2001); the Monte Clark Gallery, Vancouver , BC (2001) and Echotriste at the Museum of fine art in Montreal . Gauthier is also known for numerous collaborative efforts in the "new music" scene in Montreal and in Italy . Since 2001, he played in solo with his invented instruments in four different music events.
