Allison Hrabluik


Allison Hrabluik lives and works in Vancouver. She received her BFA at the Alberta College of Art and Design in 1999, and attended the Higher Institute for Fine Arts in Belgium from 2005 to 2007. Hrabluik’s animated videos, drawings, sculptures, and book works have been included in exhibitions and film festivals internationally including solo exhibitions at Galerie Tatjana Pieters, Ghent, Belgium; G Gallery, Toronto; The Western Bridge, Seattle; The Western Front, Vancouver; Video Pool, Winnipeg; The Yukon Arts Centre, Whitehorse, and solo projects with Artspeak and the CAG, Vancouver. Group exhibitions include 5 Propositions, Ancienne Gare, Fribourg, Switzerland; Phantasmagoria, Presentation House Gallery, Vancouver; Science Fiction 18, The Or Gallery, Vancouver; Oh Canada! MASS MoCA, Massachusetts; Museion; The Cooley Art Gallery, Reed College, Portland; How Soon Is Now, The Vancouver Art Gallery; The Idea of North, Galerie Isabella Bortolozzi, Berlin, and Zin Taylor and Allison Hrabluik at Catriona Jeffries Gallery, Vancouver. Hrabluik teaches as a sessional instructor at Emily Carr University of Art and Design, and sits at the President of the Board of Directors at Artspeak, Vancouver. She is the Cineworks Vancouver artist-in-residence for 2013/2014.

Farheen HaQ


Farheen HaQ was born and raised in the Niagara Region of Southern Ontario. She now makes her home in Victoria, BC where she has lived and worked for the past 16 years. HaQ’s media based works explore cultural inscriptions of the body, ritual and gesture. She received her BA in International Development (1998) from the University of Toronto, her BEd (2000) from the University of Ottawa and her MFA in Visual Arts (2005) from York University. HaQ is actively involved in her community, serving as a programming committee member for Open Space artist run centre, and having served previously as a board member. She is currently Artist in Residence at Artemis Place Secondary, an alternative school for girls, and taught at the Vancouver Island School of Art (2005 to 2006).

HaQ has exhibited her work in galleries and festivals throughout Canada and internationally including New York, Paris, Buenos Aires, Lahore, Hungary, and Romania. Recent exhibitions include Fashionality at the McMichael Canadian Art Collection in 2012, Collected Resonance at the Art Gallery of Greater Victoria in 2011, Pulse Interval at Open Space (Victoria, BC) in 2010, The Emperor’s New Clothes at the Talwar Gallery (New York City) in June 2009.

Peter Morin


Peter Morin is a Tahltan Nation artist, curator and writer who recently relocated from British Columbia to Brandon, MB where he joined the Visual and Aboriginal Arts Faculty at Brandon University. Morin studied art at Emily Carr University of Art+Design and recently completed his MFA at University of British Columbia Okanagan in 2011. In both his artistic practice as well as his curatorial work, Morin's practice-based research investigates the impact between indigenous cultural-based practices and western settler colonialism. This work, defined by Tahltan Nation epistemological production, often takes on the form of performance interventions, and also includes object and picture making. Morin has participated in numerous group and solo exhibitions including Team Diversity Bannock and the World’s Largest Bannock attempt (2005), A return to the place where God outstretched his hand (2007); performative works at the Royal Ontario Museum, Toronto; 12 Making Objects AKA First Nations DADA (12 Indigenous Interventions) (2009) at Open Space, Victoria; Peter Morin's Museum (2011) at Satellite Gallery, Vancouver; and Circle (2011) Urban Shaman, Winnipeg. In addition to his art making and performance-based practice, Morin has curated exhibitions at the Museum of Anthropology, Western Front, Bill Reid Gallery, and Burnaby Art Gallery.

Dan Starling


Born in Vancouver in 1979, and currently living in the same city, Dan Starling creates artworks by juxtaposing different aesthetic traditions in order to produce contradictions that illuminate the unresolved antagonisms of our culture. Taking popular subjects as a starting point, his work plays with the formal conventions of narrative through intervention, extrapolation and reconfiguration to explore latent possibilities. Starling’s work is an effusive and eclectic approach to art, making use of all manner of media and genres. Having studied at the University of British Columbia, he went on to complete a BFA from Emily Carr University of Art and Design (2005) and a Meisterschüler from the Städelschule, Frankfurt (2011). Starling has recently exhibited his work in Europe at Kunsthall Oslo and Frankfurter Kunstverein and in North America at 221A, Malaspina Printmakers, and The Apartment, all in Vancouver, and Tyler Wood Gallery, San Francisco.

Evan Lee


Evan Lee (b. 1975) received his MFA from the University of British Columbia in 2000. He is known for his experimental photo-based work but also works across the range of media and subjects. In 2009, Lee was longlisted for the Sobey Art Award.

Exhibitions include: On the Nature of Things at the Kamloops Art Gallery; Again and Again and Again I and In Dialogue with Carr at the Vancouver Art Gallery; Triumphant Carrot: the Persistence of Still Life and Playing Homage at the Contemporary Art Gallery; Evan Lee Captures at Presentation House Gallery; Le Mois de la Photo a Montreal; At Play at the Liu Hai Su Museum (Shanghai) and Curb Appeal at Confederation Centre (Charlottetown). Forthcoming solo exhibitions include Roots and Elders at the Richmond Art Gallery and at Monte Clark Gallery.

Evan Lee’s work has been featured and reviewed in Border Crossings, Flash Art International, Lapiz International Art Magazine, Yishu Journal of Contemporary Chinese Art, Canadian Art, and Art on Paper. Lee has taught at the Emily Carr University of Art and Design and in the department of Fine Arts at UBC, and has served on the Board of Directors of Centre A. Lee is represented by Monte Clark Gallery.
