The Art Gallery of Nova Scotia will accept nominations for the 2012
Sobey Art Award, for each of the five regions from recognized agents and
institutions. Please do not contact us regarding the status of your
nomination. You will be contacted by email confirming the receipt of
your package and again when deliberations have concluded.
Deadline
for nominations is March 1, 2012All application materials must be received at the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia by 5 PM on March 1. (This is not the post-marked date).
For Artist Nominee- Must be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident of Canada
- Must be 40 years old or younger on December 31, 2012
- Has shown their work in a public or commercial gallery in Canada within 18 months of being nominated
- Shown commitment to artistic practice
- Received recognition from peers, critics and or curators
For Nominators- Must be a Director or a member of the board of directors of a Canadian museum, public art gallery, professional arts organization or artist-run-centre; or
- The dean or chair of a fine arts program at a Canadian university or art college, or a professional at such an institution; or
- A Canadian private art dealer in visual or media arts; or
- An established visual or media art critic or curator; or an established artist
PLEASE NOTE:- All application materials must arrive in the mail in a letter sized (8.5 x 11”) envelope
- Please no staples, folders, or plastic sheet
- Materials cannot be returned to the artist
- Nominations submitted by fax or email will not be considered
Your Application should include:- Completed and signed nomination form
- Artist’s CV
- 200 word artist biography
- A maximum of 30 digital images of most recent work on CD or DVD
- A maximum of 5 audio/video works hosted online (or 6 copies submitted of each work)
- Numbered list of works noting medium, dimensions, year created
- 1-page cover letter written by nominator, outlining the artist’s significant achievements and reasons for nomination
- Nominator’s CV or 200 word description of nominating organization
When Submitting Work be aware of the following Guidelines:
Digital Image Guidelines- Submit large, high-quality images at a minimum of 300 dpi (press/print-ready)
- No more than 30 images will be accepted
- Files must be PC and Mac compatible TIFF files
- Title each file with a number, your first initial+last name, the year and title of your work
- Ensure that numbers for the first nine images begin with zero
(for example: 01jsmith2012divinecreation.tif) - Do not include special characters, symbols, quotation marks, spaces, etc.
Remember to:
- Save images directly on a CD or DVD (no folders)
- Mark each CD or DVD clearly with your name and region
Additional Support Material (Video or Audio) Guidelines
- No more than 5 video or audio pieces will be accepted
- We strongly encourage you to make video or audio pieces available online (through a secure area of your website or through YouTube or Vimeo).
- If you are unable to host your work online, we require that you submit 6 copies of your CD or DVD of additional support material, so that it can be disseminated to each member of the curatorial panel
