Emily Vey Duke + Cooper Battersby




Emily Vey Duke (b. 1972, Halifax, Nova Scotia) and Cooper Battersby (b. 1971, Penticton, British Columbia) have been working collaboratively since 1994. They work in printed matter, critical writing, and curation but their focus is on sculptural video installation.

Duke and Battersby's work has been exhibited in galleries and at festivals in North and South America and throughout Europe, including the Brooklyn Art Museum, NY, Impakt, Utrecht, The Power Plant, Toronto, the Walker Center, Minneapolis, the Vancouver Art Gallery, The New York Video Festival, and The Images Festival, Toronto. Their work has won many prizes nationally and internationally and has been broadcast by the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) as well as Bravo!. Many university libraries, including those at Harvard and Princeton, have also collected their work.

Duke and Battersby each received Master degrees in Fine Art at the University of Illinois at Chicago and are currently teaching at Syracuse University.
