Born and raised in Montréal, Québec, Mathew Reichertz attended Concordia University where he received a BFA in 1993. In 1997 he moved to Halifax, Nova Scotia, where, in 1999, he received an MFA from the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design.
He has exhibited his work in solo and group exhibitions across Canada including Sir Wilfred Grenfell College Art Gallery, Cornerbrook (Newfoundland), Khyber Centre for the Arts, Halifax (Nova Scotia), Ciparis/Lennox Gallery, Toronto (Ontario), Beaverbrook Art Gallery, Fredericton (New Brunswick), and Galerie Action Art Actual, St. Jean Sur Richelieu (Québec). As part of the RBC Canadian Painting Competition national touring exhibition his work was exhibited at the Museum of Contemporary Canadian Art, Toronto (Ontario), Saint Mary’s University Art Gallery, Halifax (Nova Scotia), Bau-Xi Gallery, Vancouver (British Columbia) and Galerie Sussex Gallery, Ottawa (Ontario). In 2001 a permanent, site-specific painting was installed in the Sobey Building of Saint Mary’s University, Halifax (Nova Scotia). He has received creation and presentation grants from the province of Nova Scotia and is included in a variety of institutional collections.
Reichertz currently lives in Halifax and teaches at NSCAD University.
