November 17, 2010—MONTRÉAL QC—The Sobey Art Foundation is pleased to announce that Jeanne Beker is set to host the 2010 Sobey Art Award. As host of CTV’s FashionTelevision (Canada’s leading fashion series) for 25 years, Jeanne has developed personal relationships with most of the world’s top designers, artists, and innovators. The 2010 Sobey Art Award will be announced at a gala ceremony at the Musée d’art contemporain de Montréal on Thursday, November 18.
The exhibition, organized by the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia and on view at the Musée d’art contemporain de Montréal until January 4, features work from the six shortlisted artists. These include: for the West Coast & Yukon, Brendan Lee Satish Tang; for the Prairies & The North, Daniel Barrow; for Ontario, Brendan Fernandes; for Québec, Patrick Bernatchez; and for the Atlantic, Emily Vey Duke & Cooper Battersby.
"The Award’s Governance Committee is thrilled to have Canadian broadcasting icon Jeanne Beker as host of this year’s ceremony," said Rob Sobey of the Sobey Art Foundation. “Jeanne is one of Canada’s most internationally recognized exports and is a great spokesperson for Canadian creativity.”
“Visual art has always been at the heart of what we do at FashionTelevision – it's been the wind beneath our wings, inspiring us all, and the world of high fashion at large,” said Beker.
“At a time in our country when there's such a dire need to get behind our artists, these prestigious awards help support and celebrate one of Canada's most precious commodities.”
