Paperwork 30

Curated by David Diviney

Inventions Gallery, Halifax’s first artist-run centre, was established in 1972 by a group of female artists.  In 1974, the organization changed its name to Eye Level Gallery Society and opened its membership to male artists.

To celebrate its 30th year of operation, in 2004 Eye Level Gallery commissioned Paperwork 30, a limited edition of 25 boxed sets, each containing one original work by 20 affiliated artists. Photography, printmaking, painting, drawing, and ink wash works exemplify the broad range of contemporary practices of these artists with ties to Halifax and Nova Scotia. Included in this excerpt from Paperwork 30 are examples by artists Peter Dykhuis, Suzanne Gauthier, Arthur Handy, Sarah Hartland-Rowe, Garry Neill Kennedy, Drew Klassen, Micah Lexier, Kelly Mark, Mathew Reichertz, Emily Vey Duke and Cooper Battersby.
