Garden Party

A collection of acrylics offering a variety of garden landscapes representative of Brian's whimsical style.

“While growing up in a city surrounded by farms and wilderness perhaps the grass always looked greener at the top of the hill. It was the hill and the tension created between the land and sky that captured my eye and my imagination. The tension of pattern and texture, sound and scent, reflected in line and colour all mark the continuing adventure and record.”

About Brian Sloan

"Painting is a big part of my life. Some of my earliest memories involve exploring the sky and gardens around our home creating drawings and paintings from these adventures and sharing the real and imaginary worlds I traveled in.

As a teenager, one hot July day I loaded everything I would need to create a painting into a bag and tied a board to my bicycle. The afternoon that followed cemented my future as an artist, immediately connecting me to the world in a way I could never have imagined. I discovered that working outside within my subject, feeling the constraints of weather and time, made the work immediate and vital.

Today, I immerse myself in plants and animals, land and sky. I am drawn to the small and often missed plants, brooks and ponds, reflections of our world. When working outside is not possible I work in the studio from drawings, objects, photographs and memory. I move freely between landscape, still life and abstract expressions returning to familiar places and ideas recording views, creating unique images."
