Colour Fields: Tulipomania is artwork influenced by Andrea’s trip to the tulip fields and Keukenhof, Netherlands in April 2012. She describes her experience:
“Surrounded by a cacophony of colour, one cannot help but feel alive and inspired. At the peak of tulip mania, in February 1637, some single tulip bulbs sold for more than 10 times the annual income of a skilled craftsman. If you ever visit Holland during tulip time you will understand why.”
Born and raised in Quebec, Andrea also lived in Yukon Territory from 1984-88 and presently resides with her family in beautiful Nova Scotia, Canada. Mostly self-taught, she has studied art with the University of Southern California, Nova Scotia College of Art and Design, and with professional artists in Canada and abroad.
Her love of the environment, history and travel are exhibited in the abstract layered landscapes and colourful, textured florals and narratives that she creates. She uses water based mediums, acrylics, oils, crayons, ink, handmade papers, printmaking, found objects and incorporate them in her art pieces or use them in her application techniques.
Colour Fields & Tulipomania will run from June 1-30th at the Art Sales and Rental Gallery 1723 Hollis St, Halifax.
