Announcing our New Chief Curator, Sarah Fillmore
December 1, 2009 The Art Gallery of Nova Scotia is pleased to announce that Sarah E. Fillmore has been named Chief Curator. Ms. Fillmore’s appointment commenced November 23, 2009.
“We are thrilled to welcome Sarah Fillmore as the Chief Curator of the AGNS,” said Ray Cronin, Director and CEO. “Her experience and credentials are an enormous addition to the Gallery. I join with the entire AGNS team in congratulating Sarah on this position.”
While completing her Master of Art in Museum Studies at Harvard University, Ms. Fillmore held the position of Gallery Manager at the Chappell Gallery in Boston Massachusetts. She then moved to Portland, Maine and was Coordinator of Public Programs at the Portland Museum of Art. Sarah has worked with the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia since 2005, most recently as Acting Chief Curator since October, 2008.
Over the past five years, she has exhibited her diverse and extensive knowledge in several roles with the AGNS: Special Projects Coordinator for the Treasures of Ancient Egypt, Sobey Art Award Coordinator, and Curator of Exhibitions.
Exhibitions and events that Sarah has curated at the AGNS include CLICK, Forces of Nature, and the Sobey Art Award. She is currently working on a major retrospective and accompanying publication of Canadian abstract painter Jacques Hurtubise, set for exhibition and publication in 2011.
