The Art Gallery of Nova Scotia is proud to offer educational tours during the school year. We believe that these school tours are an opportunity that enriches the learning of students and teachers.
Visits to the Gallery will help students develop listening, viewing and speaking skills, while engaging them in thoughtful interpretations and reflections with original art works from the Permanent Collection and temporary exhibitions.
We offer thematic tour options that provide students with a cross-curricular experience based in the visual arts.
The tours are intended to introduce and/or reinforce concepts already taught in the classroom. Specific curriculum outcomes may be covered on guided tours depending on the tour guide, the grade(s), and what is currently on view at the time of the visit.
To find specific links to the Nova Scotia Curriculum Outcomes for each tour visit our Tour Options page. If you wish to focus on a particular topic during the tour, please indicate when filling out the online booking form.
Thanks to the very generous support of Canaccord Wealth Management, primary to grade 12 students across the province receive free access to their provincial art gallery with their class. (Groups must book ahead to participate in the Canaccord Free Access School Program.) When students visit, they will participate in animated discussions about art works in the Permanent Collection and temporary exhibitions and engage in hands-on, in-gallery activities.
This year's exhibition and tour schedule promises to be dynamic and inspiring! Find out more about our current and upcoming shows by checking under Exhibition on the website.
Students and teachers always enjoy visiting our Permanent Collection as well which includes the Painted House of folk artist Maud Lewis!
