The Art Gallery of Nova Scotia is committed to providing high quality art programs for young children. We welcome opportunities to work with, and support the early childhood education community through such initiatives as special exhibitions, resource development and workshops for educators, parents, and caregivers. Engagement in the arts enhances the development of self-expression, imagination, and inquiry.

Daycare and Pre-School Program: Red, Yellow, Blue, and You
This is a Gallery tour program designed for daycare and pre-school groups with children ages three to five.

Children explore the visual arts in an interactive tour in the Gallery followed by a related art making activity in the Young Learners' Studio. IIlustrated storybooks, puppets, and specially designed hands-on materials are used to engage children as they discover more about themselves and their world. Repeat visits are encouraged. Maximum 15 children per group.

Art Resource Kits
Art resource kits are available for loan to daycare centres and pre-school programs from various locations throughout Nova Scotia. These professionally designed kits provide educators with unique materials and ideas to support children's learning and creative expression in and through the arts.

Kits include a series of large colour art reproductions from the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia's Permanent Collection and a manual to guide educators through the materials.

Arts Express: Art Classes
Special classes for 4 and 5 year olds are available over March Break and in the Summer School of the Arts program.
