Resiliency & Youth

Teen Art

For many youth, the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia has become a safe environment where they can creatively participate in various art experiences. Young people involved with such organizations as Phoenix Youth Programs, Laing House and IWK Health Centre are engaged in specially-designed, artist-led initiatives at AGNS. These studio/gallery programs offer opportunities for youth to build resiliency and confidence by developing both artistic and social skills in a relaxed and inspiring learning environment.

Phoenix Youth ProgramsSince 2001, the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia has been working collaboratively with Phoenix Youth Programs, a non-profit, community based organization in Halifax which offers a variety of programs for at-risk and homeless youth between 16 and 24. Every Thursday evening young people meet at the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia for a light dinner and drop-in studio program. This workshop is facilitated by artist Miro Davis and a staff member from Phoenix Youth Programs.
