ArtReach is an educational partnership between the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia and the Nova Scotia Department of Education.
ArtReach is now in its eighth successful year of operation and the Program continues to support opportunities to work with, exhibit, and celebrate student art across the province and establish exciting arts connections in Nova Scotia schools.
ArtReach programming includes:
- Travelling exhibitions of original works of art
- Workshops for teachers and students
- Development of online curriculum links between Gallery works and school programs
- Classroom-based art projects and activities
Since its inception, ArtReach has engaged teachers and students in locations across Nova Scotia.
Schools, museums, and galleries have all enthusiastically participated in ArtReach programming. In every location, participants examine artworks by Canadian artists and have opportunities to learn more about the techniques of artmakng by creating their own works, working with practicing artists.
A kit containing artist information, curriculum links, Art Gallery of Nova Scotia publications, a “Learning to Look” resource, and tools for printmaking remain with the exhibition so additional groups may be accommodated. In each venue, engagement with and response to the works results in many forms of literacy including poetry, soundscapes, stories, dance, and visual art.
