Art Classes

Sign up for a week of creative fun in the studio facilitated by a local artist. Both half day and full day opportunities are available. Interactive discussions and activities inspired by the original artworks in the Gallery are a unique and inspiring component of this art experience!

Adventure into the Art World

With artist Margarita Fainshtein

This art class focuses on the joyful process of art making and the incredible experience of having created something new. Students will have the opportunity to express themselves using a wide range of art materials and techniques including exploration of drawing, printmaking, collage, and painting on various surfaces. Join us for a potpourri of creative fun and experimentation!

Clay Animal Extravaganza!

With artist Bethany Riordan-Butterworth

Using clay, students will create a variety of animal forms.  They will explore sculptural ceramic techniques as a starting point, and use their imaginations to then further develop their work. Inspired by work on exhibit in the Gallery, students will also investigate sculptural forms and surface decoration. Projects in this class will include sculpture, small scale and large-scale work, as well as collaborative work. As always, there will be lots of time for diving into the unexpected!

*Please note that this class is sculpture-based and does not use the pottery wheel.


 Picture This!

With artist Brittany Warren

This class takes photography out of the frame and into the three dimensional world! Students will use their imaginations to explore and expand the many possibilities of using photography to create sculptures, collages and books to fabricate beautiful worlds and stories of their own. Using found photos, recycled objects, and photos taken in the classroom itself, students will gain further knowledge about various photography techniques and have a lot of fun too!

Master of Puppets

With artist Andrew Maize

Create a variety of fun, wild, and playful puppets from marionettes to shadow puppets to finger puppets using papier mache, wire, and an assortment of other materials. Learn about the history of puppetry from Punch to Fraggle Rock, and create your own characters and a performance with the group!

Class size is limited to 13 participants unless otherwise noted and unless there is more than one instructor.

Students are to be dropped off and picked up from the Education Centre on the first floor of AGNS Gallery South.  There is no supervision before 8:30 am.

After school care is available until 4:45pm for an additional fee.

Lunchtime supervision is available for an additional fee for full-day students only as space is limited.  Students are required to bring their lunch. 

It is suggested that students pack a snack for mid-morning and/or mid-afternoon. Creative work and play makes one hungry!!!

No NUT products please.

Some programs will take advantage of the fine weather so a hat and sunscreen are recommended.

Art making can be messy so students remember to wear “work” clothes.


Pre-registration is required for all classes.  Please register in person at the AGNS Gallery South Information Desk or by phone with credit card payment (Visa or MasterCard only) at 424-5280 during regular Gallery hours.  Our program continues to grow in popularity so please register early to avoid disappointment. 

Fees for Week-long Classes

Non-members $130.00 per week for half-days; $260 for full-day classes.

Gallery Members $117 per week for half-days; $234 for full-day classes. 

 (+ HST for all classes)

Fees include all art materials

An additional fee of $15 (non-members), $10 (Gallery members) per week will be charged for lunch supervision for students attending full-day classes.

A fee of $10 will be charged for after-school supervision. Pre-registration is required.

A limited number of sponsorships are available on a needs basis.  If there is insufficient registration, a workshop will be cancelled with fees refunded two weeks prior to the start of the workshop.  There is a 10% non-refundable registration fee.  There are no refunds two weeks prior to the class.
