Family Portraits: Immigration and Identity

Seventeen families. Seventeen stories. The Portrait Gallery of Canada is presenting the upcoming exhibition Family Portraits: Immigration and Identity. Through original portraits, seventeen new Canadian families will tell stories of their journey to Canada. Their portraits will take visitors through the rich experience of leaving their places of origin and adjusting to a new country.

Family Portraits: Immigration and Identity is presented by the Portrait Gallery of Canada, a programme of Library and Archives Canada, in collaboration with the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia. The exhibition is made possible thanks to support offered by the Ottawa Community Immigration Services Organization (OCISO), the Metropolitan Immigrant Settlement Association (MISA) in Halifax, and the Community Arts Program, Cultural Services, City of Ottawa.

Family Portraits: Immigration and Identity will be opening on February 16, 2009 in Ottawa, Ontario, and will run until April 30, 2009.

The exhibition opens at the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia in June 2009 and will be on display over the summer.
