September 16, 2010 – HALIFAX, NS – The Art Gallery of Nova Scotia is excited to kick off the fall season of its popular Family Sundays on September 19. The Gallery hosts these inspiring afternoons of in-studio activities one Sunday a month.
This weekend's Family Sunday, titled Spotlight, is based on the
Sobey Art Award: 2010 Atlantic Long List installation that is currently on view at the Gallery. This exhibition highlights the
excellence of artistic production in the Atlantic Region through the
diverse practices of the contemporary artists who, through various
connections, identify themselves as Atlantic Canadian.
Family Sunday: Spotlight is a drop-in format running from 1:00 pm until
4:00 pm with the Gallery supplying all materials. Children must be
accompanied by an adult but pre-registration is not required.
Artist Talk with Stephen KellyTo complement the Family Sunday event, Halifax artist Stephen Kelly will also be on-hand giving a talk on his current exhibition,
Open Tuning (WaveUp), from 2:30 pm to 3:30 pm. Using speakers mounted on the gallery walls and suspended from the ceiling,
WaveUp combines electronic and sculptural elements to create an interactive work that mimics buoys at sea responding to weather and climactic conditions in real-time.
