Sobey Art Award
In 2002, the Sobey Art Foundation created the largest art award for a Canadian artist under 40. The Sobey Art Award is now given annually to an artist who has exhibited in a public or commercial art gallery within 18 months of being nominated. A panel of five curators, one representing each of the nation's five regions, work to choose the shortlist of five artists from the national long list of 25 artists.

ArtsSmarts Nova Scotia
ArtsSmarts is a national program that is dedicated to supporting creative learning. The Art Gallery of Nova Scotia and NSCAD University are the regional hosts for ArtsSmarts Nova Scotia. The partnership Advisory Committee includes representatives from theatre, music, dance, literary and visual arts, as well the Department of Tourism, Culture and Heritage.

Nocturne: Art at Night
Each year, on the third Saturday in October, this annual festival brings art and energy to the streets of Halifax from 6:00 pm to midnight. The event is completely free of charge and showcases what the exciting Halifax arts scene has to offer. Pick up a program and map at participating venues to guide you to exhibitions throughout the city. You'll also see art happening in the most unlikely places as artists take to the city's streets.
