Marguerite Porter Zwicker was born in 1904 in Yarmouth, Nova Scotia. She graduated from the Nova Scotia College of Art in 1927 and later studied under Stanley Royle (1932 and 1933) and the American watercolourists J.W.S. Cox  (Rockport, Massachusetts, 1949) and Eliot O'Hara (Florida, 1961). She taught at the Nova Scotia College of Art (1927-1929) and at Acadia University (1931-1933). From 1957 to 1970 she ran Zwicker’s Gallery with her husband, LeRoy Zwicker. She died in Halifax in 1993.

Her artistic career lasted over 60 years and she often painted three watercolours a week. Her work has been exhibited at the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia (which has over 50 of her watercolours and sketches), the Nova Scotia Society of Artists, the Royal Canadian Academy, the Montreal Art Association and the California Watercolour Society as well as in New York and Calgary. Her works is held by the Nova Scotia Museum, the Agnes Etherington Art Centre and the Tom Thomson Memorial Art Gallery.
