Sobey Art Award Welcomes FedEx Custom Critical




October 14, 2009 - HALIFAX, NS - The Sobey Art Award is pleased to announce that FedEx Custom Critical will be the official transportation sponsor for the Award by supplying art transportation services for the Sobey Art Award Exhibition.

The exhibition, on view at the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia from September 5 to November 5, will feature work from the five shortlisted artists. These include, for the West Coast and Yukon, Luanne Martineau; for the Prairies and The North, Marcel Dzama; for Ontario, Shary Boyle; for Québec, David Altmejd; and for the Atlantic, Graeme Patterson. Art from these artists will be delivered from across Canada to the AGNS under the care of the FedEx Custom Critical team.

We look forward to aligning with FedEx Custom Critical as we bring together some of the very best contemporary art from Canada for the Sobey Art Award. The Sobey Art Award 2009 will be announced at a gala ceremony at the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia on Thursday, October 15.

About the Sobey Art Award
The Sobey Art Award, Canada’s preeminent award for contemporary Canadian art, was created in 2002 by the Sobey Art Foundation. It is an annual prize given to an artist under 40 who has exhibited in a public or commercial art gallery within 18 months of being nominated. A total of $70,000 in prize money is awarded annually; $50,000 to the winner and $5,000 to the other four finalists. Since its inception, the Sobey Art Award and accompanying exhibition have been organized and administered by the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia.
