Sobey Art Award Partners with Bravo!

October 14, 2009 - HALIFAX, NS - The Sobey Art Award is pleased to announce that Bravo! will be the exclusive television sponsor for the annual Award in both 2009 and 2010 providing extensive editorial coverage of the annual Sobey Art Award including a behind the scenes look at the installation, the opening of the exhibition, interviews with the shortlisted artists, and coverage of the awards ceremony.
The Sobey Art Award 2009 will be announced at a gala ceremony at the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia on Thursday, October 15, 2009. The event will be hosted by Laura Regan of television’s Mad Men and CTV’s Seamus O’Regan.
The exhibition, on view at the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia until November 5, features work from the five shortlisted artists.  These include: for the West Coast and Yukon, Luanne Martineau; for the Prairies and The North, Marcel Dzama; for Ontario, Shary Boyle; for Québec, David Altmejd; and for the Atlantic, Graeme Patterson.

About the Sobey Art Award
The Sobey Art Award, Canada’s preeminent award for contemporary Canadian art, was created in 2002 by the Sobey Art Foundation. It is an annual prize given to an artist under 40 who has exhibited in a public or commercial art gallery within 18 months of being nominated. A total of $70,000 in prize money is awarded annually; $50,000 to the winner and $5,000 to the other four finalists. Since its inception, the Sobey Art Award and accompanying exhibition have been organized and administered by the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia.
