Art Gallery of Nova Scotia to cancel Lord Dalhousie exhibition and alter upcoming schedules

February 27, 2009
Water problems continue to plague the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia. Because ground water continues to be an issue for the  AGNS there will be drastic changes to the AGNS exhibition schedule. With the coming spring thaw there could also be further impact to the Gallery's hours and schedule. The Art Gallery of Nova Scotia continues to work with the Department of Transportation, Infrastructure Renewal to address this issue and find the appropriate solution. Give the challenges with the ability to assure the soundness if the main exhibition space, the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia has had to cancel the upcoming Lord Dalhousie exhibition from the National Gallery of Canada. This decision was made in consultation with the National Gallery of Canada after careful deliberation by the AGNS professional staff.

Art Gallery of Nova Scotia Director and CEO Ray Cronin notes, "The AGNS is concerned that should this problem persist, it would not be able to maintain proper humidity controls and that canceling the exhibition, while extremely disappointing, is the most professional option at this time. We look forward to future exhibition from the National Gallery Canada and I would like to thank Marc Mayer and everyone at the National Gallery for their support at this time. We work very hard to maintain our Class-A status and look forward to a timely resolution to this continuing matter "

The AGNS will replace the Lord Dalhousie exhibition with a video exhibition titled  Forces of Nature. This permanent collection exhibition, featuring works by Kelly Richardson, David Askevold, Katherine Knight and Emily Vey Duke + Cooper Battersby will be on view April 9 to May 31, 2009.

The AGNS will continue to work toward a solution however as much of the work will need to occur in public areas, the AGNS may have to close to the public at various times. The AGNS will provide closure information on its website
