Gallery Director & CEO to deliver NSCAD University commencement address

May 12, 2010 – HALIFAX, NS – Ray Cronin, Director & CEO of the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia, will deliver this year's Commencement Address at NSCAD University's 2010 graduation and commencement ceremony in Halifax on Saturday, May 15.

A curator and writer with over 15 years experience in the visual arts, Ray has been with the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia for nearly a decade. He was appointed Director & CEO in June 2008. During his tenure he has also served as Curator of Contemporary Art, Acting Chief Curator, Senior Curator, and Acting Director and Chief Curator.

Ray holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from NSCAD University and a Master of Fine Arts degree from the University of Windsor. He has written about visual art for many Canadian and American publications and delivered lectures and presentations across the country. He has also taught at the New Brunswick College of Craft and Design and NSCAD University.

Ray is the founding curator of the Sobey Art Award. He served as Chair of the Sobey jury until 2008.
