August 4, 2010 – HALIFAX, NS – On Friday, August 6 at 6:00 pm, the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia will launch its Young Patrons’ Circle – an exciting new membership initiative for the newest generation of Nova Scotian art enthusiasts and Gallery patrons.
The Circle supports the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia in its quest to engage young people in all facets of arts and culture, particularly Atlantic Canadian contemporary art. Monies raised through memberships will endow an annual purchase fund for contemporary Canadian works for the permanent collection, creating an enduring legacy for members of the Young Patrons’ Circle at the Gallery.
The launch event will be held at the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia. It will precede the opening of the Sobey Art Award: 2010 Atlantic Long List exhibition, a showcase of contemporary Atlantic Canadian artists nominated for the esteemed Sobey Art Award. Guests will have an opportunity to view this exhibition prior to the official opening and meet the artists.
Tickets to the launch party are free with the purchase of a Young Patrons’ Circle membership or $12 for non-members. Tickets can be purchased at the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia Main Desk on the evening of the event.
The Young Patrons’ Circle is led by a volunteer steering committee consisting of: Alyson Queen, Chair; Bessy Nikolaou, Vice Chair; Joe Burke; Pamela Chisholm; Lizzie Dodds; Joanne Hames; Mary Hill; Alice McCarron; Kelly McGuire; Kimberley Mosher; Mary Orr; Mitchell Wiebe; and Bernard Doucet (ex-officio).
