Upcoming exhibition features Atlantic Canadian contemporary artists

August 4, 2010 – HALIFAX, NS – This year, for the first time, the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia will present an exhibition of the five Sobey Art Award nominees from the Atlantic Region.

Each year, 25 artists from five regions across the country are nominated for the Sobey Art Award – Canada’s preeminent prize for contemporary Canadian art. This exhibition of Atlantic Region nominees highlights the excellence of artistic production in this part of the country through the diverse practices of the artists who, through various connections, identify themselves as Atlantic Canadian.

The Sobey Art Award: 2010 Atlantic Long List opens Saturday, August 7 at the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia. A special members’ preview with the artists in attendance takes place Friday, August 6 at 7:30 pm.

The long listed artists representing the Atlantic Region in 2010 are: Graeme Patterson (Halifax, NS), Mario Doucette (Moncton, NB), Lucie Chan (Vancouver, BC), Vanessa Paschakarnis (West Dublin, NS), and collaborators and Atlantic shortlisted contenders Emily Vey Duke and Cooper Battersby (Syracuse, NY).

The Atlantic Long List exhibition will be on view until November 21, 2010.
